Title: Visitor Services Associate (Front Gate/Greeter) – Rough Point

Classification: Part-time seasonal (hourly, non-exempt)

Reports to: Manager of Frontline Operations

Overview:

Visitor Services Associates at the Front Gate facilitate the daily circulation of visitors at Rough Point Museum and are the first and last point of contact. They ensure the entry, orientation, and exit sequence at Rough Point is run professionally and that the visiting public feels welcomed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Be the first point of contact for visitors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  2. Maintain excellent customer service and exceptional hospitality to ensure a welcoming visitor experience.
  3. Orient visitors to the different experiences available at Rough Point- including guided tour times and information about other onsite programming.
  4. Oversee the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic; assist visitors in parking
  5. Communicate with staff inside the house regarding visitors and visitor service operations.
  6. Provide information about NRF, the Newport area, and heritage tourism as appropriate.
  7. Provides basic interpretive content to guests – particularly about the grounds and gardens at Rough Point.
  8. Remain up-to-date with NRF’s initiatives, programs, policies, and procedures
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:  

  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service at all times. Experience working with the public, particularly in educational or customer service roles preferred.
    • Must be a flexible team player, with the ability to troubleshoot and exercise sound judgement in response to changing scenarios.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of Newport and its attractions.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of Rough Point and the Newport Restoration Foundation.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, carry 40 lb., and work in various outdoor conditions (under shelter).

The Visitor Services Associate will be positioned at the front gate and guard shack and work on average three days a week (Tuesday-Sunday) including one weekend day. The weekday hours are 9:30 am until 5:15 pm.
