Exhibitions Intern
The Exhibitions Intern plays an integral role in helping to research, organize, and prepare items from the Doris Duke Fashion Collection for a 2027 exhibition that will focus on making and makers, as well as highlighting similar themes for the Newport Furniture Galleries of Art, Design, & Craft. The intern’s work will help NRF engagement staff to shape the exhibition content and related programming. This is a project-based position, with up to 20 hours per week (depending on the scheduling needs of the candidates and NRF) for a period of 10 weeks.

Historic Carpentry Intern (Historic Trades Initiative)
The Historic Carpentry internship is an up to 12-week full-time position at NRF’s carpentry mill (62 Halsey Street, Newport). The intern will work under the supervision of NRF’s Mill Supervisor who will guide the daily prioritization of work to be completed. The mill’s primary role is to repair or recreate interior and exterior property features such as windows, doors, trim, clapboard, and staircases for installation on NRF properties.

Communications Coordinator
The Communications Coordinator plays an integral role in supporting the messaging work of the Newport Restoration Foundation to internal and external stakeholders, including NRF employees, NRF Board of Trustees, Tenant Stewards, Restoration Team Partners, donors, NRF partners/collaborators, onsite visitors, digital audience members, and members of the public. This position is responsible for executing the Communications & Audience Development strategy, designed to increase awareness and support of NRF through expanded audiences and revenue growth. The Communications Coordinator will help support the communications work across departments, oversee the implementation of the in-house style guide for publicly-shared NRF messaging materials, provide NRF website project support, facilitate digital content work, coordinate the marketing and audience engagement strategy for all NRF initiatives—including public programs, the tenant steward rental program, workforce development programs, exhibitions, ticketed admission experiences, store products, and donor campaigns— and develop and strengthen relationships with local press and advertising organizations to promote NRF’s work.

Archives Intern
The Archives Intern plays an integral role in increasing access to archival collections to NRF stakeholders, including NRF employees, researchers, students, and the community at large. The intern will assist the NRF Archivist and Digital Collections coordinator in processing a large collection of photographs ranging in date from the late 1800s to the present. This is a multiphase project that involves rehousing, indexing, and digitizing the collection. Additionally, the intern will be tasked with some research inquiries to support the creation of museum exhibits.
The intern will gain firsthand experience working with archival materials, learn best practices for digitization, and write a DACS compliant finding aid. The intern will also gain experience in research and assist with the creation of museum exhibits. They may participate in department meetings, attend museum tours, and learn about historic preservation.
This position is part of a larger phased project to arrange, describe, and improve accessibility to NRF’s archival collections.

Archaeology & Architectural Fragments Intern
The Archaeology & Architectural Fragments Intern plays an integral role in inventorying, organizing, researching, and describing archaeological objects and architectural fragments found at Newport Restoration Foundation properties. These items include architectural fragments and unearthed objects of material culture. This is a two phased project: one phase may include “in the field work” documenting architectural elements in situ at NRF restoration sites and the second phase includes organizing, rehousing, describing, and—if time permits—research into the objects currently housed at Rough Point Museum. The intern’s work will help make this collection more accessible to NRF stakeholders, including NRF employees, researchers, students, and the community at large. This is a project-based position, with up to 20 hours per week (depending on the scheduling needs of the candidates and NRF) for a period of 10 weeks.

Preservation Construction Project Lead
The Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF) is seeking a part-time Preservation Construction Project Lead to oversee subcontracted preservation projects throughout the organization’s collection of 80 historic buildings. Projects will range in size and complexity – from select chimney repointing to whole-house exterior restoration – and primarily be located at NRF’s tenant-occupied Preservation Properties. This is a temporary, twelve-month position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension. The individual will need to hold flexible hours to achieve project goals (not to exceed 30 hours per week).
