Sea-level rise, increasingly damaging storms, and flooding are threatening our communities. What can we do to plan for a more resilient future? This walking tour will identify some of the drivers behind flood vulnerability, approaches to protect historic properties from rising tides, and highlight opportunities and challenges facing Newport to unify resiliency and preservation initiatives citywide. While the tour will highlight case studies from NRF’s portfolio of historic properties, the strategies discussed will be applicable for many homeowners and will broach interventions small to large.

In partnership with our friends at Charter Books, join us for an event with author Dr. Elizabeth Block as she shares the details and stories that bring garments to life, revealing the personal narratives and politics that shape American clothing. The evening will begin with an unveiling of a new rotation of fashion objects from Doris Duke’s wardrobe on view in our special exhibition Fashioning Resiliency: Doris Duke’s Legacy of Conservation, followed by an illustrative talk by Dr. Elizabeth Block. Dr. Block will be on hand after the talk to sign and personalize copies of her book.

We will also commemorate the stories of the many generations of Newporters who lived here.
