DESCRIPTION:Keith W. Stokes\, Rhode Island’s State Historian Laureate and co-author of A Matter of Truth\, will deliver a thought-provoking talk on the ongoing journey toward truth\, justice\, and equity. Stokes’ presentation will offer historical insights and personal reflections on Rhode Island’s 400-year history of racial discrimination and resilience. \nThis talk is in conjunction with the opening of  A Matter of Truth-Newport\, on view at The  Vernon House/46 Clarke Street. This exhibition is presented by the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society in partnership with the Newport Restoration Foundation and celebrates the contributions and resiliency of African heritage and Indigenous peoples in Newport\, Rhode Island. \nTickets for this special event are available here. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to partner with Puddingstone Festival on an evening of music and dance at Rough Point! Our founder Doris Duke was a supporter of the arts\, as well as a musician and a dancer. We are delighted to host this evening celebrating the performing arts in her home. \nThe concert will feature Arlen Hlusko\, Grammy Award-winning cellist from Canada\, alongside Frankie Car\, British-American cellist\, both esteemed members of Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect. They will be joined by Clemens Teufel\, German pianist and founder of Puddingstone. The program features a rich array of works\, including Beethoven’s Cello Sonata Op. 5 No. 2\, followed by Schumann’s Fantasy\, Op. 73\, originally written for clarinet and here arranged for cello. Shostakovich’s Five Pieces for Two Violinswill be reimagined for two cellos\, and Alban Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder\, arranged for cello\, will bring a lyrical\, turn-of-the-century avant-garde touch to the evening. Throughout the performance\, Rhea Keller and Katie Moorhead\, renowned and beloved dancers who have both previously been presented by Newport Contemporary Ballet\, will bring their graceful and expressive movement to select pieces of the program\, further elevating the experience. Bring along your dog to visit the elephants at Rough Point before the herd continues their migration.
