Job Summary: The Newport Restoration Foundation is seeking an Estate Gardener to maintain the beautiful gardens at Rough Point Museum on Bellevue Avenue. Responsibilities include maintaining ornamental features within the gardens, to the highest standard and using organic gardening techniques. Work is performed as part of a crew or independently.

 

Salary: $45,760-$49,920 annually ($22.00-$24.00 per hour)

Full-time / year round work

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Check gardens for health-related issues daily and address in a timely manner.
  • Perform typical gardening tasks including but not limited to planning, planting, transplanting, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, deadheading, mulching, edging, staking, amending soil, watering and organically managing pests, diseases and invasives.
  • Work with other Grounds and Gardens crew as directed.
  • Participate in programming as requested.
  • Attend professional development lectures; garden tours, and classes to improve knowledge base.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Two or more years of horticultural experience with in-depth knowledge of plant culture, maintenance, and identification.
  • Degree/Certification in horticulture or related field preferred.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions; lift and carry 50lbs. minimum; bend, stoop, climb and work from ladders.
  • Proficiency in organic gardening techniques.
  • Personal qualities of a strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
