Bookkeeper

The Newport Restoration Foundation is looking for a Bookkeeper to join its Finance team.  This position is primarily responsible for maintaining the day-to-day financial records by recording transactions accurately and ensuring that accounts receivables and payables are properly managed. The Bookkeeper will work out of their office at the NRF headquarters at 51 Touro Street, where they will be part of a close-knit team.

Classification:          Full-time (hourly, non-exempt)

Reports to:                 Chief Financial Officer

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Record cash receipts and make bank deposits
  • Record accounts payables and print checks on a weekly basis
  • Reconcile bank and investment statements
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries and biweekly payroll
  • Process and track accounts receivables, mainly tenant receivables through a property management software package
  • Respond to tenant and customer/vendor inquiries
  • Request and maintain W-9s and liability insurance, as applicable, from vendors
  • Prepare annual 1099’s
  • Assist with annual budget preparation
  • Assist with annual audit as well as workers’ comp audit
  • Prepare quarterly employer 401k distributions and annual 401k reconciliations
  • Process biweekly payroll during absence of Human Resource Administrator
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Record and take minutes for quarterly finance committee meetings
  • Assist with various human resources related projects as necessary
  • Respond to inquiries from the Chief Financial Officer regarding financial results, special reporting and the like

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Certificate in Bookkeeping
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably 2 in non-profit accounting
  • Proficient with QuickBooks and some familiarity of payroll software
  • Good judgement, with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong knowledge of Excel
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to be both self-directed and a team player
  • Highly organized, analytical thinker with strong attention to detail

Salary Range:  $45,760 -$49,920 ($22.00- $24.00 per hour commensurate with experience), medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, health savings account, 401(k) contribution, 15 vacation days, 10 sick days, holidays and professional development assistance.
