A Conservator's Tale: Uncovering Mysteries at Rough Point and Beyond
How do museums like Rough Point preserve their collection for future generations? Join Rough Point's longtime conservator, Alexandra Allardt, as she uses examples from Rough Point and elsewhere to explain how professionals repair and conserve such items as Chinese porcelain, Touro Synagogue's first torah, the feathery plumes of a designer cape worn by Doris Duke, and even John Hancock's pants. In addition to the lecture, this month the Community Couture Gallery features art from Rogers High School students.
Lecture begins at 5:30 pm. Lecture fee is $5.
This Spanish baroque chest from Rough Point is one of Alex's current conservation projects. Learn about the secret compartment she recently discovered!
Included with the lecture is the opportunity to view the exhibit Shop Like an Heiress, presented in two galleries at Rough Point. Visitors can further explore the wardrobe of Doris Duke from her Paris couture to America's top designers. Full house tours are not offered on gallery nights.
