Tenant Information
The NRF funds its architectural and historic preservation mission by renting most of its historic homes, unfurnished, to private individuals. The residential lease term is one year, which is automatically renewed unless we are otherwise advised by the tenant. Short term leases (by the week or month) are not available. Several of our buildings are also commercially zoned, and occasionally become available for 3-5 year lease terms. All tenants must sign a stewardship statement, and abide by the NRF Rules and Regulations.
NRF houses vary in size, shape, and age and consequently, the rent we charge is adjusted accordingly. Rents are determined based on market value, taxes, and annual maintenance costs. Currently, our rents range from between $1,700 to $3,000 per month.
As this program is popular, and our tenants tend to be long-term, the turnover of properties occurs infrequently, perhaps three to five houses per year. We do maintain a list of applicants for the patient and determined, and advise any prospective tenants that it may be three to four years before we are able to offer them a house. Houses are offered to prospective tenants in strict chronological order of receipt by application date. Current NRF tenants are given first choice of available houses.
To become a prospective tenant, please fill out the application form, and mail it to the NRF together with a check for $20.00. Upon receipt, your name and contact information will be added to the list.
Once a house becomes available, we will contact you by letter with the address, floor plan, and associated costs, such as move-in fee, deposit, and monthly rent.
