Celebrate Christmas in the 1800s
November 17, 2008 View more News
Glimpse a Newport holiday celebration from the 1800s with Keeping Christmas with the Whitehornes. Visit Whitehorne House, a Federal-style mansion along Newport's waterfront and see the two Whitehorne daughters preparing for a Christmas meal. Witness the simple festivities of the time and learn why some less tolerant colonies even outlawed holiday celebrations. Sample Mrs. Whitehorne's gingerbread and take away a booklet of authentic period recipes.
Join us on one of the three weekends leading up to Christmas at Whitehorne House, located at 416 Thames Street. Tickets are sold at the door. The admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 16. For more information, call (401) 847-2448 or email lisa@newportrestoration.org
